I always believe that we need integrative medicine, coined by Andrew Weil, MD the combination of conventional and alternative medicine. Together they make a circle, each needing the other to complete a whole. Both of these treatments have their strengths and weaknesses.
Like Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) such as aromatherapy, Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine…are not aimed at one specific body system; rather they focus on maintaining the homeostasis (balance) of a patient’s body. CAM believes that the world is full of viruses and bacteria; the only way to be healthy is to have a strong immunity system. Therefore, chronic illnesses (e.g., arthritis, insomnia, and irritable bowel syndrome) could be helped with CAM.
Whereas orthodox medicine talk about eliminates and kills the invading viruses and bacteria. It is very specific and it is effective for acute illnesses and trauma (e.g. accident…) which could be treated with Western drugs or surgery.
